Link previews and first comments
How a link in a caption becomes a preview card, how to edit or remove the preview, and how to add a first comment on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Paste a link into the caption and SocialApp loads a preview of the page: its title, description and image. The preview is shown in the composer and sent with the post where the network supports link cards.
Edit or remove the preview
- Edit link preview changes the title, the description or the image. Editing is supported for LinkedIn and verified Facebook Pages; other networks build their own card from the page.
- Use the arrows to choose another image from the page.
- Remove link preview keeps the link in the text without a card.
- Adding media replaces the preview. Revert to Link Preview brings it back.
If a page cannot be reached, the composer says it could not load a preview. Only public web addresses are fetched.
First comment
The first comment is published right after the post, from the same account. Use it for hashtags or a link you do not want in the caption.
- Facebook: up to 8,000 characters (not on Stories).
- Instagram: up to 2,200 characters, with up to 10 mentions.
- LinkedIn: up to 20,000 characters.
Other networks have no first comment field. The comment is added once the post exists; if the network refuses the comment, the post stays published.
Links and tracking
UTM parameters and link shortening apply to the links in the caption when the post is published. See UTM parameters and URL shortening.
